The 34th Annual Bob Telmosse Christmas Giveaway was held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Mortgage Solutions Financial Expo Center in Colorado Springs.  There was more than enough space for the toys, bikes, books, stuffed animals, Olivia’s Corner, Santa Claus, and for handing out the food. There was also a large parking lot, and the building is located along a bus line. A circular drive at the front of the building was utilized to collect donations on the day of the event. A side door in the bike area allowed folks to exit and load their cars in a delivery zone with the help of volunteers. This was the sixth year that we have been able to have this location for our giveaway.

We prepared 600 bags of food to be handed out. There was a limit of one bag per family and all bags were distributed. It is not known how many families did not receive a food bag. Each bag contained a turkey, can of vegetables, stuffing mix, potatoes, and additional fresh and packaged foods were donated by Care and Share. More than 3,000 children and caregivers attended the giveaway.

In addition, there were more than 650 volunteers who came to assist with the giveaway. Volunteers were utilized in the areas of traffic control, donation collectors / sorters / runners, hosts, gift wrappers, toy monitors, book and stuffed animal assistants, and Santa’s helpers. Others helped with wristbands, bike repairs and fittings, refreshments, entertainment, and cleanup. There were also dentists on site to offer free dental check-ups. Entertainment was also provided.

In preparation for the event, we hosted and/or sponsored the following fundraisers:

11/08/2016 – Tennis for Toys at Lifetime Fitness & Silent Auction

11/19/2016 – Bike Drive at The Brass Tap
